This week, Omega Construction began digging footings and encountered some unsuitable soils. F&R, the construction testing firm, performed DCP and auger tests to determine bearing capacity of the existing subgrade. Initial indications are that it is less than previously indicated in soils exploration reports produced a few years ago.
With this common situation well under control, the costs and schedule impacts are currently being weighed to help select the best path of remediation. The contractor, Omega Construction, anxiously awaits pouring footings and getting “out of the ground.”
Ideally, footings will be poured early next week.
