NCAA Pool Underway!

It’s “Bracket Time, Baby!”  Here at Gontram Architecture, we are again hosting our annual NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament Pool!

The Tournament provides a much-needed release, distraction and yes, madness.  Yeah, we know the stats about wasted time, lost productivity, yada yada.  Everyone should just have fun once in a while.

That said, we renew our open invitation to enter your picks on Gontram Architecture’s Annual NCAA Basketball Pool.  Gontram Architecture’s version of the traditional office pool is unique.

Our Pool is FREE – no money, no trouble with the authorities.

It’s open to anyone. (We don’t encourage folks under 18 yrs old to play, but we don’t object either.)  Two years ago, 6 of the top 10 finishers were still in elementary school!

We have great prizes from great sponsors:

It doesn’t even matter if you know anything about college basketball – trust me, it doesn’t.  In fact, an average amount of knowledge seems to be a hinderance as I have not even SNIFFED a prize position in the history of the Pool.

Register by going to our sign-up page.  (This year, you must register in order to participate – sorry for the additional step, but with well over a thousand contestants, this helps manage the “madness.”)  Then, log on between 8:00 pm, Sunday March 15th (Selection Sunday) and 11:00 am, Thursday, March 19th and make your picks.  And, you too, can become a little less productive for a couple of days in March.

One entry per person, please.

Free NCAA Bowl Game Pick ‘Em Pool – Picks Due by 11:00 AM, 12/20/14

BowlPrizesThe magic of Bowl Season is HERE!  This year, again, FBS (Division I) teams will participate this year in (too) many bowl games.

Again, Gontram Architecture is hosting our Annual NCAA Bowl Game Pick ‘Em Pool!  As always, this is a FREE pool, open to (almost) anyone, with great prizes for the winners, and a horse’s butt bobble head trophy for the last place winner!

Completed Entries are due by 11:00 am, December 20, 2014 – prior to the first Bowl Game in our Pool.  Note:  Some bowl games are not included in our Pool.

As in year’s past, bowl game points are based upon their payout value rounded to the nearest million. For instance, the Belk Bowl pays out $1,000,000 to the teams so it is worth 1 point. The Sugar Bowl pays out $18 million to those teams, so that game is worth 18 points. A 4 point bonus is given to the National Championship Game.

Don’t miss out on the fun. (One entry per person, please.) Online Pick Sheets are available now by going to http://www.gontramarchitecture.com/ga-news/NCAABowl/ncaa-bowl.htm.

UConn Wins! Dennis Burns wins Gontram Architecture’s Pool!

Gontram_Architecture_basketballs_2

I see basketballs! The Madness is complete!

UConn beat Kentucky last night to capture the 2014 NCAA Men’s Basketball National Championship. That also concludes Gontram Architecture’s largest NCAA Pool ever!

Dennis Burns (Raleigh, NC) finishes in 1st Place.  He maxed out his points early, but hung on.  As a Gontram Architecture employee, Dennis is ineligible for the usual list of prizes, and the awards will move down the list of winners.  Don’t feel bad for Dennis, however, as he will receive a prize.

Ben Ho (Charlotte, NC) followed in 2nd Place.  Jenifer Gold (Raleigh, NC) finished close behind in 3rd.

Sam Rusak, Jr. (Raleigh, NC) clinched Last Place a while ago.  Congratulations, Sam!  You get the butt!

Take note of a few things when looking at our reports:

  • “Coin Flip” finished in 1,128th Place.  This is actually a bracket we filled out using the flip of a coin to make the picks.
  • “Chalk” finished in 665th Place.  This is a bracket we filled out picking all of the higher seeds – no exceptions.
  • President Obama is in 252nd Place.  (We entered his picks for him as he was too busy to respond to our invite.)

Gontram Architecture’s version of the traditional office pool is unique:

  • Our Pool is FREE – no money, no trouble with the authorities.
  • It’s open to anyone. (We don’t encourage folks under 18 yrs old to play, but we don’t object either.)  Two years ago, 6 of the top 10 finishers were still in elementary school!
  • While we are NOT giving away $1 Billion for the perfect bracket, we do have great prizes from great sponsors, including tablets for the top 3 finishers:
  • Microsoft Surface RT from Atlantec Engineers
  • Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 10.0 from C.E. Ham Electric
  • Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 7.0 from Gontram Architecture and G5 Design-Build
  • Roku3 from Harris Structural Design.
  • $100 Gift Card for Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse from Floorscape NC, Inc.
  • Apple iPod Shuffle from Ten Penny Construction, Inc.
  • NCAA Flags from WindDesigns – The Flag Shop.
  • T-shirts from Gontram Architecture
  • Horse’s Butt trophy for Last Place

UConn vs. Kentucky! Gontram Architecture’s Pool nearing the end!

Gontram_Architecture_basketballs_2

I see basketballs! The Madness is underway!

UConn vs. Kentucky.  One more game in the 2013-2014 NCAA Men’s Basketball season.  That also means that Gontram Architecture’s 17th Annual NCAA Basketball Pool is coming to an end!

Dennis Burns (Raleigh, NC) maintains his grip on 1st Place.  He has maxed out his points, so only those that picked Kentucky can unseat him.

Ben Ho (Charlotte, NC) follows in 2nd Place.  Jenifer Gold (Raleigh, NC) is close behind in 3rd.

As recently announced, we already have a “winner” in the pool.  Sam Rusak, Jr. (Raleigh, NC) has clinched Last Place.  Congratulations, Sam!  You get the butt!

Take note of a few things when looking at our reports:

  • The “Player Scenarios” report shows the best you can do, the worst you can do, and who to root for.
  • “Coin Flip” is in 1,128th Place.  This is actually a bracket we filled out using the flip of a coin to make the picks.
  • “Chalk” is in 643rd Place.  This is a bracket we filled out picking all of the higher seeds – no exceptions.
  • President Obama is in 240th Place.  (We entered his picks for him as he was too busy to respond to our invite.)

Final 4 is set! Gontram Architecture’s Pool nearing the end!

Gontram_Architecture_basketballs_2

I see basketballs! The Madness is underway!

The “Final 4” is set with Florida, Wisconsin, UConn and Kentucky.  That also means that Gontram Architecture’s 17th Annual NCAA Basketball Pool is coming to an end!

Gontram Architecture’s Dennis Burns (Raleigh, NC) jumps into 1st Place. Other participants need not be concerned, however, as employees of Gontram Architecture are not eligible to win a prize.  However, since Dennis has an uber-cool boss, he will receive an equivalent prize if he places.  Given he has already maxed out his points, 1st place will be pretty difficult.

Sean Icenhour (Phoenix, AZ) follows in 1st Place.  Logan Culbreth (Wilmington, NC) is close behind in 3rd.

As recently announced, we already have a “winner” in the pool.  Sam Rusak, Jr. (Raleigh, NC) has clinched Last Place.  Congratulations, Sam!  You get the butt!
