Round of 32 Complete! Loser of Gontram Architecture’s 17th Annual NCAA Pool Announced!

Gontram_Architecture_basketballs_2

I see basketballs! The Madness is underway!

The “Round of 32” is complete and Gontram Architecture’s 17th Annual NCAA Basketball Pool continues to roll along.  My bracket is completely toast, so my rooting interest is firmly entrenched with the underdog, whoever that is.

Currently, Sean Icenhour (Phoenix, AZ) leads the way in 1st Place.  Logan Culbreth (Wilmington, NC) is close behind in 2nd.

At this point, we already have a “winner” in the pool.  Sam Rusak, Jr. (Raleigh, NC) has clinched Last Place, marking the first time in a few years someone who was actually trying to come in last was able to do so.  Congratulations, Sam!  You get the butt!GANCAAgif

Take note of a few things when looking at our reports:

  • “Coin Flip” is in 1,088th Place.  This is actually a bracket we filled out using the flip of a coin to make the picks.
  • “Chalk” is in 619th Place.  This is a bracket we filled out picking all of the higher seeds – no exceptions.
  • President Obama is in 212th Place.  (We entered his picks for him as he was too busy to respond to our invite.)

Gontram Architecture’s version of the traditional office pool is unique:

  • Our Pool is FREE – no money, no trouble with the authorities.
  • It’s open to anyone. (We don’t encourage folks under 18 yrs old to play, but we don’t object either.)  Two years ago, 6 of the top 10 finishers were still in elementary school!
  • While we are NOT giving away $1 Billion for the perfect bracket, we do have great prizes from great sponsors, including tablets for the top 3 finishers:
  • Microsoft Surface RT from Atlantec Engineers
  • Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 10.0 from C.E. Ham Electric
  • Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 7.0 from Gontram Architecture and G5 Design-Build
  • Roku3 from Harris Structural Design.
  • $100 Gift Card for Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse from Floorscape NC, Inc.
  • Apple iPod Shuffle from Ten Penny Construction, Inc.
  • NCAA Flags from WindDesigns – The Flag Shop.
  • T-shirts from Gontram Architecture
  • Horse’s Butt trophy for Last Place

Round of 64 Complete! Gontram Architecture’s 17th Annual NCAA Pool Underway!

I see basketballs! The Madness is underway!

With the “Round of 64” complete, Gontram Architecture’s 17th Annual NCAA Basketball Pool is well underway, with many already asking themselves, “What was I thinking?!”

With 1,137 participants this year, only one (Logan Culbreth) still had a perfect bracket through Thursday, but that ended on Friday evening when UMass lost.

If there is one thing that I will take into consideration next year, it will be team free throw percentage.  If you suck at ’em, plan on being fouled – a lot.  Just as Jimmy V introduced the tournament to it in 1983, fouling down the stretch was an absolute killer for some teams in the opening round, and my NC State Wolfpack was no exception (hopefully, they will spend ALL SUMMER PRACTICING THEIR #$%&@ FREE THROWS!!).

Take note of a few things when looking at our reports:

  • “Coin Flip” is actually a bracket we filled out using the flip of a coin to make the picks.
  • “Chalk” is a bracket we filled out picking all of the higher seeds – no exceptions.
  • President Obama’s picks are entered, just for giggles.

And we’re off!  Gontram Architecture’s 17th Annual NCAA Basketball Pool is underway!  1,137 participants this year vying for a tablet computer with a few daring souls intentionally throwing their brackets in the river trying to win the horse’s butt bobblehead for Last Place.  Fat chance!

GANCAAgifThe Tournament provides a much-needed release, distraction and yes, madness.  Yeah, we know the stats about wasted time, lost productivity, yada yada.  Everyone should just have fun once in a while.

So, log on between 8:00 pm, Sunday March 16th (Selection Sunday) and 11:00 am, Thursday, March 20th and make your picks.  And, you too, can become a little less productive for the next few weeks.

NCAA Bowl Game Pick ‘Em Pool is Complete!

BowlPrizes#1-ranked Florida State beat Auburn in a classic game (with a 4th quarter to be remembered) to win the BCS Championship Game! The 2013-2014 NCAA Football Bowl Season is now complete!

In Gontram Architecture’s annual NCAA Pick ‘Em Pool, Daniel King takes 1st place in the Pool with 121 points and an impressive 84% pick percentage. He did pick all of the BCS Bowl Games correctly, scoring massive points for those picks.  (That’s the intent in our point scoring system – reward those for picking the correct winner in the games that mattered the most.)

Dale Kitchen takes home the horse’s butt trophy for last place.  With a 38% pick percentage, he found himself in the basement.

Review the results by visiting our page and clicking on various reports.  You can see bowl game results, tourney scoring, review your picks (as well as other competitors’), and more.
